World Mental Health Day Celebration | October 10
World mental health day takes place every year on October 10 and it aims to educate and raise awareness of mental health issues. The day was set up by the World Federation for Mental Health and it was first celebrated in 1992. Each year the event has a different theme. Suicide prevention is the primary focus for 2019.
Regent College London’s Student Support Team encouraged students to take the Zero Suicide Alliance’s free online suicide prevention training, to help identify warning signs and feel comfortable having conversations about suicide. While talking to students, the Student Support team underlined the importance of breaking the stigma around suicide and mental health and invited students to light a candle at 8pm in support of suicide prevention.
Students took pictures of candles and sent them to the Student Support Team as a sign of their support and solidarity.
